Iran to host Islamic unity conference

Iran is to host the 21st conference on Islamic unity from May 4 to 6, Ayatollah Mohammad-Ali Taskhiri, a senior Iranian cleric said.
The secretary-general of the World Forum for Proximity of Islamic Schools of Thoughts told Press TV on Monday that 850 intellectuals and ulama from 45 countries, including Western European states and the U.S., would participate in the conference.He added that the meeting would be held with the aim of strengthening unity in the Muslim world, finding solutions to the problems of Muslims and bringing closer the scientific and cultural views of Muslim clerics.
He further stated that Leader of the Islamic Revolution, Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei, has stressed the importance of codifying a draft charter on Islamic unity.
The cleric said that over 2,000 ulama and intellectuals from Islamic countries have so far signed the draft charter.
Ayatollah Taskhiri termed “the plots hatched by the enemies” to sow discord among Muslim nations and undermine Islamic values as the main challenges set before the forum.
